Long drives are an unavoidable aspect of travel in the American Southwest. If you’re like most visitors, you will have spent hours cooped up in a vehicle before you even caught a glimpse of the Grand Canyon. Now that you’re here, you want a Grand Canyon touring experience that allows you to feel the breeze on your skin, enjoy some healthy exercise, and view the Grand Canyon unobstructed by metal and glass. We have just the thing for you: Grand Canyon Bicycle Tours!

Since 2010, Bright Angel Bicycles has brought DIY and guided bicycle touring to Grand Canyon South Rim. Explore the park’s extensive network of paved trails, greenways, and off-road paths on a traditional or e-bike, with a licensed guide or on your own. Bright Angel Bicycles’ rental fleet consists of user-friendly custom KHS TC100 cruiser-style bicycles, which are fitted to the rider prior to departing their store at Mather Point. Bikes can be rented by adults and children over 3’8” in height. Bike trailers or tagalong bike attachments are available for smaller children or those who cannot ride on their own. For folks who need a little help getting up steep hills, ElectraTownie e-bikes, aka pedal-assist bikes, are a win-win! Adults and children over the age of 12 can rent e-bikes; trailers or tagalong equipment are not allowed with e-bike rentals.

From the moment they opened their doors, Bright Angel Bicycles received rave reviews on TripAdvisor, Yelp, and other popular consumer review sites. Where the company really shines, however, is with its guided Grand Canyon bicycle tours. Available from mid-March through mid-October, choose from:

The Hermit Road Tour: an easy 3-hour, 5.5-mile, one-way ride to the quiet greenways and stunning vistas of the Hermit’s Rest Road, west of Grand Canyon Village. You’ll be dropped off by shuttle at Hopi Point, where you will be met by your professional bike tour guide who will escort you to Historic Hermit’s Rest, providing informative commentary on the Grand Canyon area’s geology, anthropology, and wildlife. At Hermit’s Rest, you will reboard your shuttles for the return trip to Bright Angel Bicycles’ headquarters near the Grand Canyon Visitors Center. Children ages 2 and up welcome; e-bikes may not participate in this tour.

The Yaki Point Bicycle Tour: Get to know the Grand Canyon up close and personal by exploring the newest Grand Canyon greenway path on a traditional or e-bike! This 7-mile, 3-hour Grand Canyon bicycle tour is a great ride for families with young kids, or experienced cyclists. Departing from Bright Angel Bicycles store near Mather Point, you will ride close enough to the Grand Canyon to get a spectacular view while remaining an appropriate distance to be completely out of harm’s way. At the Yaki Point overlook, you’ll glimpse the beginnings of the South Kaibab Trail, and maybe even be lucky enough to spot a mule deer, elk, or California Condor on the return ride. Along the way, your licensed tour guide will acquaint you with the unique geology, plant life, and colorful human history of the park. Departs daily at 9:30 AM (check-in/safety briefing 30 minutes prior to departure)

If you’re the type of traveler who prefers to make their own way to their chosen destination, ask about the Hermit’s Rest Shuttle Package. This popular bicycle rental/shuttle combination, also available from mid-March to late-October, consists of:
A 2 hour bike rental with a helmet
Round trip shuttle van service with drop off at Hopi Point and pickup from Hermit’s Rest
2 daily departures at 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM (check-in and safety briefing 30 minutes prior to departure)
Total mileage of the ride from Hopi Point to Hermit’s Rest is 5.5 miles
This shuttle option allows you to see the best of the Hermit Road without excessive physical exertion by bypassing the long uphill incline from Grand Canon Village to Hopi Point. Children ages 2 and up welcome; no e-bikes.

Arrive early for your Grand Canyon bicycle tour or rental to enjoy a pre-ride latte at the on-site cafe and coffee shop, or to pick up a box lunch to fuel your day’s adventures!

Bright Angel Bicycles can also help with stroller rentals and wheelchair rentals.
