Why Visit Tusayan Ranger Station

Tusayan Ranger Station is the public face of the Kaibab National Forest’s Tusayan District. Stop in for maps, permits, forest road conditions, and expert advice before exploring the South Rim backcountry or nearby national forest lands.

Highlights

Issuance of wood‑cutting, Christmas‑tree, and America the Beautiful passes
Up‑to‑date road, fire‑restriction, and weather information for Kaibab NF & Grand Canyon region
Historic 1939 Civilian Conservation Corps buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places

Description

Built in 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Tusayan Ranger Station still serves as the administrative and visitor hub for the southern portion of Kaibab National Forest. Staff issue permits, sell maps, and share current trail and road conditions. The rustic log‑and‑stone architecture epitomizes Forest Service “Parkitecture,” and the six‑building complex remains one of the best‑preserved New Deal–era ranger stations in Arizona. Because it sits just two miles south of Grand Canyon National Park’s South Entrance, the office is an ideal first stop for travelers needing forest information, dispersed‑camping guidance, or backcountry trip planning.
