If you want to park in Grand Canyon village, this is a great place. You are close to a bus connection that takes you through the entire park. The places are spacious so that a camper can also be easily parked. We found this a very nice place to park our camper during our visit to the grand canyon
Why Visit Parking Lot D – Grand Canyon Village, South Rim
Lot D is the largest public lot in Grand Canyon Village west of the railroad tracks. Because it rarely fills, rangers often direct drivers here when Lots A–C are full. The lot’s location makes it a convenient base for day visitors, backcountry hikers picking up permits, and RV travelers who need extra room to maneuver.

Parking Lot D sits beside the Backcountry Information Center (BIC) on the South Rim. It is the park’s go-to overflow lot, with long, pull-through bays for RVs and trailers and quick pedestrian access to shuttle stops, the Bright Angel Trailhead, and the Village Historic District.

Getting There
From South Entrance Station (Tusayan) or from Desert View / East Entrance. Speed limit inside the Village is 15 mph (24 km/h) – watch for elk and mule deer on the roadway.

Is parking in Lot D really free?
Yes. Parking anywhere on the South Rim is included with your park entrance fee; no additional permit or payment is required.
Can I leave my car overnight while I hike the Bright Angel Trail?
Only if you have a valid backcountry permit for an overnight hike. Display the permit copy on your dashboard; rangers will ticket unpermitted overnight vehicles.
Does Lot D have electric-vehicle chargers?
No. The closest public Level-2 chargers are at Yavapai Lodge (about 1.5 mi/2.4 km east). Plan to top up there or in Tusayan before entering the park.
Are there height or length limits for RVs?
The southern pull-through bays accommodate most Class A motorhomes and buses (up to 40 ft/12 m). Longer rigs must use the large vehicle section at the Visitor Center Lot A.
How late do the shuttle buses run from the BIC stop?
The Village (Blue) Route normally ends around 10 p.m. Check the current schedule posted at the stop or in the NPS Grand Canyon app.
Is Lot D plowed in winter?
Yes. Park maintenance plows main village lots after snowstorms, but sections may remain slick. Carry tire chains when snow is in the forecast.
Are there water-bottle refill stations nearby?
A free bottle-filling station is inside the BIC lobby, next to the restrooms.
