Overflow parking a 3‑minute walk from the Grand Canyon Visitor Center, ideal when Lots 1 & 2 are full. Paved, well‑signed, and open 24/7 with ADA spaces and shuttle access to viewpoints.
Pay attention to what number parking lot you are in as well as what section in that number- I was so excited to get to the rim of the canyon I didn't pay too much attention. When leaving the park, all exits to parking areas look the same, spent an hour looking for my darn car😂
All parking lots are large and even with a large number of tourists, there is always a place. They are located around the Service Center and each is close to it.
Although the parking lot is large, it can fill up depending on the season, so it's best to go with plenty of time. It was fairly empty if you went early in the morning on a weekday (around 9am).There is a gate on the way to the canyon where you pay, so you can use this parking lot for free.At the gate along the way, you will be asked where you are going, so just answer that question in English and then you can pay by simply taking out your credit card.
All parking spaces here in the park are clean. Since there are three large parking lots nearby, you can always find a spot.

Parking Lot 3 functions as the primary overflow lot for the busy South Rim Visitor Center complex. Clearly marked signs, animal‑symbol posts, and paved aisles help drivers remember where they parked. Although designed for standard passenger vehicles, the lot offers wide ADA stalls near accessible walkways that lead directly to the Visitor Center Plaza. From here, visitors can board free park shuttles, walk 0.2 mile to Mather Point, or access bike paths and the Rim Trail. Lighting, emergency phones, and regular ranger patrols enhance safety, but overnight camping or vehicle sleeping is prohibited. Expect the lot to reach capacity by late morning during spring through fall.
Car: Enter via South Entrance Station; follow signs to Visitor Center, then Lot 3. Park Shuttle: Kaibab/Rim (Orange) Route stops at Visitor Center Plaza, a 2‑minute walk. Bicycle/Foot: Greenway Trail links the lot to Market Plaza and Mather Point.
