Absolutely stunning views—Mather Point is a must-visit!This was our first stop at the Grand Canyon, and it left us speechless. The views are incredible and give you that classic, jaw-dropping Grand Canyon experience. It’s easily accessible from the visitor center, and the paved pathways make it great for all ages.We were lucky enough to catch both sunrise and sunset here—and both were absolutely amazing. The way the light hits the canyon walls creates the most vibrant colors and peaceful atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to just take a breath and appreciate the natural beauty.There’s plenty of space to take in the scenery and snap photos without feeling rushed or crowded. A perfect introduction to the South Rim—don’t skip it!

I heard this is the first recommended spot on the South Rim. It's really cool; you can see the Grand Canyon after walking just two minutes from the parking lot. You can probably explore the area in about 15 minutes. The scenery is magnificent, but we went at noon. For someone who loves to take more artistic photos, it might feel a bit ordinary because there's less change in the light and shadows.

Mather Point is absolutely breathtaking! Located on the South Rim, it offers stunning panoramic views that are a must-see — especially at sunset. The colors over the canyon as the sun goes down are truly unforgettable. We also came back at night for stargazing, and it was magical. The sky was so clear and full of stars. This spot is definitely one of the highlights of the Grand Canyon and not to be missed!

Unforgettable experience – a true highlight of our US tripThe Grand Canyon was hands down the highlight of our entire trip to the US. It’s one of the most awe-inspiring natural wonders I’ve ever visited. We started at Mather Point, which is an incredible viewing spot—you can honestly spend hours just admiring the view from there.From Mather Point, we began our hike along the Rim Trail, which took us about two hours to complete. The trail is easy to follow and offers constant views of the canyon, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way. The changing light and perspectives make every section unique. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Grand Canyon—even if you’re not into intense hiking, this trail is a must-do.

Description

Named for Stephen Tyng Mather, the first director of the National Park Service, this broad limestone promontory sits 7,120 ft (2,170 m) above sea level and plunges 4,500 ft to the Colorado River below. Guard‑railed overlooks extend along the Rim Trail, providing dramatic perspectives of Bright Angel Canyon, Phantom Ranch, and the distant North Rim. Because it is the closest major viewpoint to the South Entrance and visitor center, Mather Point is often the first glimpse many travelers have of the Grand Canyon. Wayfinding signs, water‑refill stations, and restrooms make it a convenient stop, while the free Kaibab Rim (Orange) shuttle connects it to additional viewpoints.
