Kolb Studio is a 1904 cliff‑edge home and photography studio turned museum. Visitors can explore rotating art & history exhibits, shop the Grand Canyon Conservancy bookstore, and step onto a balcony that seems to float above the canyon.
I’ve always wanted to visit the studio since learning about it in school. It was really cool getting to walk around the studio and learn about its history and see the old cameras. I went on a day where they didn’t have a tour or I would have wanted to spend more time. Great stop either before or after hiking a little bit of the Bright Angel Trail.
This shop is located along the foot path in Grand Canyon Village and offers a spectacular view of the canyon as well as a free exhibit, currently about the Kolb Brothers. It is open daily and offers lectures by Park Rangers on a variety of topics, but recommend you check their website for current hours of operation. Inside there are numerous informational boards and panels about the Grand Canyon.
It's a nice historical place that is nowadays a store where you can buy souvenirs. But first of all, the back deck has a gorgeous view of the Grand Canyon you won't want to miss!Also, there's a trail right next to the studio where will connect you to Bright Angel Trailhead that is leading you to the bottom of the canyon and down to Colorado River.
I am not sure what the studio is meant for, but our tour guide asked us to enter this place to purchase souvenirs and snacks and told us that there were amazing views from the back of this place. Indeed, this was one of the most stunning closeups of the Grand Canyon. Also, there was access to the trail along the rim of the canyon that leads to a man-made arched entrance. The views were stunning. Make sure to walk along the face of the cliffs and not on the cliff side when the mules arrive from the opposite side. The gift center is simply amazing. The place is not accessible for wheelchair beyond a point.

Kolb Studio clings to the Kaibab Limestone rim at the head of Bright Angel Trail. Inside, interpretive panels, original Kolb cameras, and seasonal art shows reveal how two adventurous brothers documented early canyon tourism. The ground‑floor gallery and bookstore are staffed by Grand Canyon Conservancy, the park’s official nonprofit partner.
From the park’s South Entrance, follow signs to Grand Canyon Village. Park in Lots C–D or at the Backcountry Information Center. Walk west on the Rim Trail toward Bright Angel Trailhead; Kolb Studio is the dark‑shingled building cantilevered over the cliff edge.
