This hydroelectric powerplant is another essential part of the Glen Canyon Dam complex responsible for generating and providing electrical power for the complex as well as electricity for the American West. The powerplant has eight generator units, each is rated at a capacity of 165,000 kW to produce a total of 1,320,000 kW. The dam is also a key component to the Colorado River Storage Project, playing a major role in water management and hydropower generation. Tours of the dam and power plant use to be available at the Carl Hayden Visitor Center, however we learned during our visit they are currently closed with no firm date when they will resume.
