A 0.2‑mile walk brings visitors to a railed perch nearly 1,000 ft above the Colorado River, framing sweeping views of Glen Canyon Dam, Lake Powell and the first bends of Glen Canyon.
Beautiful place to stop!! You can sit here and relax, or just stop in real quick for another view! The views are beautiful. The water is beautiful. It was a little short like to the overlook, but nothing too strenuous. I highly recommend adding this place as a last minute quick stop if you want one!
Pretty cool staircase trail. Plenty of parking. Beautiful rocks for the right pic. Water level extremely low. Dam is average, but the canyon view is beautiful. Under 30 minutes to enjoy the view.
The Glen Canyon Dam Overlook is a beautiful spot with an amazing view of the Powell Dam. It’s just a short walk down to the overlook. Some parts of the path are a bit tricky, but there’s a railing to hold on to which makes it easier. A great place to start your visit before heading over to the bridge. Definitely worth a stop!
The dam view is absolutely stunning. It has a small museum kinda thing where you can read the history and see some artefacts as well. Restrooms are available as well. A quick visit.
Great overview of the dam and other breathtaking views, but beware, the trail to go down is a bit tricky and the rail to hold on to is extremely hot! It takes about 8 minutes and there's some stairs but not through all the trail.

Glen Canyon Dam Overlook sits on a sandstone rim ¾ mi south of the dam itself. A short but moderately steep trail—part metal staircase, part native rock—drops 124 ft to a fenced viewpoint carved into the cliff. Interpretive panels explain dam construction and the formation of Lake Powell, while the broad platform offers unobstructed views upstream to the lake and downstream into Glen Canyon. No facilities are provided on‑site; the nearest restrooms and water are at the Carl Hayden Visitor Center. Pets are welcome on leash, but be mindful of hot rock surfaces in summer.
Car: From US‑89 in Page, turn onto Scenic View Road (signed “Dam Overlook”) and follow 0.6 mi to the parking lot. Tours/Taxi: Page‑based tour operators and local taxis will drop at the trailhead. Bike/Walk: 1.5 mi south of the Carl Hayden Visitor Center; use paved shoulders on US‑89 and Scenic View Road.
