Camping in a Cabin near Grand Canyon

Hull Cabin – Front View

Do you like to go camping in style – in a cabin?  Are you looking for some peace and quiet?  Perhaps Hull Cabin near the Grand Canyon is just what you need!  This cabin is the oldest of the Grand Canyon historic cabins.  According to the Forest Service website, it was built in the late 1880′s as part of a sheep ranch.  It began use as a ranger station in 1907.  By 1985 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

If you like rustic, this one is!  No electricity!  No cell phone service! Water is limited!  However, there are some really big perks if you like solitude, hiking, fishing, mountain biking and just enjoying nature at its finest.  You are likely to see lots of wildlife – if you’re careful and don’t scare it away.

You will not be in the Grand Canyon but you will be in the Kaibab National Forest which borders it.  Summers in the forest can be hot in the daytime but nighttime temperatures can drop quickly.  Come prepared for large temperature differences.  If you come in the spring or the fall temperatures can drop into the freezing range or below at night.  This will make camping at Hull Cabin a much nicer experience than tent camping.

Alley – No bears at the Grand Canyon, too dry…

Alley – Also, probably won’t need a portable stove as Mather Campground has barbecue grills and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. Would recommend flashlights or headlamps because it gets very dark at night.
Visitor – Ok, in May it is cold?
Visitor – Ok flashlights cool…
Visitor – We won’t do much hiking but apropiate shoes right?
Alley – Daytime highs are nice, in the high 60′s, low 70′s but overnight lows are still around 30
Alley – Yes, tennis shoes, or perhaps Tevas/Keens type sandals if you prefer sandals.
Visitor – Okay Iam at the library using the computer. Can I chat with you later or do get a different person and what is the website to chat you are very helpful!

Is it dangerous to camp in the Grand Canyon in tents?

April 30, 2012 conversation with a GrandCanyon.com Visitor – Is it dangerous to camp in the Grand Canyon in tents?

Alley – No, we do not have animals like bears & such here. But do keep your food secured as deer and ravens like to mooch off campers.
Visitor – Okay, I just wanted to make because my class is going on a field trip on May.
Alley – :) Thanks for visiting and have fun!
Visitor – OKay, thanks for the advice ! :)
Visitor – Has there been any accidents there?
Alley – Yes, but considering the number of people that come every year they are few and far between.
Alley – Most injuries occur when people do things they were expressly warned NOT to do, such as try to hike to the bottom of the canyon and back in a day, pet the wildlife, etc.
Visitor – Okay, well thanks for the advice have a great day :)
Alley – You too – have a great field trip to the Canyon!
