Grand Canyon Skywalk Experience From Williams, AZ

The Grand Canyon Skywalk sounds exciting!  The drive to get there can be an adventure of itself, so let Grand Canyon Old West Jeep Tours do the driving for you, and show you the Grand Canyon Skywalk and more, on the Grand Canyon Skywalk Experience.

Begin your journey from Williams, Flagstaff or Tusayan.  Enjoy the story behind the scenery as you travel on Route 66, the real-life basis for the Disney Pixar hit, “Cars.”  You might even see the cars that inspired some of the film’s characters such as Mater, Red and Lizzie as you relive Arizona’s living history on one of the last remaining stretches of the original Mother Road.

Just north of Kingman Arizona, you’ll transition from one fascinating roadway to another: the Stockton Hill Road.  While Route 66’s status as an American legend is well-established, you might be surprised to find that the Stockton Hill Road has also been the subject of legends of a different sort: a UFO was said to have crash-landed in the nearby Cerbat Mountains in 1953.  So legend has it… but the abstract austerity of the Mojave Desert, and the loneliness of this remote road, can certainly be conducive to wanderings of the imagination.

As you turn onto the Dolan Springs Road, you’ll soon be surrounded by an ancient grove of Joshua Trees.  You have now entered Hualapai Indian Tribal Lands, and their unique Grand Canyon Park, Grand Canyon West.  Your next stop: the Grand Canyon Skywalk!  This innovative and sometimes controversial attraction opened in March of 2007 and catapulted Grand Canyon West to international fame.  Designed and financed by a Las Vegas businessman, the Grand Canyon Skywalk features a horseshoe-shaped platform lined entirely in glass, jutting 70’ past the lip of the canyon.  Those who stand upon it are treated to the somewhat peculiar sensation of hovering high in the air above the Grand Canyon!  Other highlights of Eagle Point include an Indian Village Museum, where replicas of traditional tribal dwellings can be explored inside and out; and the amphitheatre, where members of the tribe in ceremonial regalia perform dances and cultural performances.

At Guano Point, you’ll enjoy a barbecue lunch, with a view of the Colorado River, and have some free time to shop for mementos of your visit before heading back to town for the evening.
